Hi all, so if you've reached this page, you're on the hunt for donuts and have come to the right place. First, I have to share my story. My husband and I are big baseball fans and had started taking trips to see the Chicago Cubs play teams in other stadiums, other than Wrigley. Any time we took a trip, we were determined to find a good donut shop for breakfast, since most hotels aren't known for their great breakfasts restaurants. So, in each city we visited, we looked for a great local donut spot. Usually, we'd find a local place and give it a whirl, so we've kept this tradition going as long as we've been traveling... Ok, so now let's fast forward to...

March 2020

We were preparing to go see the Cubs play the Nationals and Orioles in April. Unfortunately, the U.S. began facing a global pandemic, and Covid-19, aka, Coronavirus started spreading and people were being told to stay home. Come April, we were all shut down, working or not working, no school for the kids, everything, including the entire season of Spring (including our baseball games) were canceled. At one point, in late April, my husband suggested we try a new local donut spot in Illinois every Sunday, as a way to get our kids out of the house and away from the electronics (from a distance without any person to person contact). I saw this as a multi-opportunity. Go for a car ride, visit new places (from a distance), and the most important part, EAT DONUTS!

So every Sunday, as a family, we search near and far for local donut spots. I started posting them on social media because it's fun, but I also want to highlight a local business and help spread the word because any sort of exposure might help bring in some kind of business during these strange and challenging times. People then began asking me questions about where I find these places or giving me suggestions for new places, so then Sunday Donuts was born!

January 2022

WOW, it's been almost 2 years since I first started this site we embarked on our journey of sweetness. We've visited, what feels like, ALL possible donut spots in Illinois. Though we've slowed our visits a little bit, we still look for new places to visit and make the trip when we can. Not only did we find some amazing donuts, we've also met and had donuts with some awesome people. The thing I love about donuts isn't just the delish food we taste, but the memories. I've heard from SO many people how donuts have impacted their life in a good way. I often hear, "I remember when"... and it's usually followed by a great donut memory and that's what makes donuts great! So we are continuing to create our own memories and I definitely want you to continue to share yours! Here's to a new year and hopefully, some memories sprinkled with joy.
